Our Service Charge Policy:
Why We Do Not Accept Tips:
We do not accept any tips or gratuities because we are all professionals doing quality work, providing a quality experience, and that we do not want to work for tips.
We believe that our work is great and our product is great, and that has a price. The price includes a fair wage for all of us to do a professional job. We would all rather get a regular paycheck and have work benefits, like any other professional person, instead of the “feast or famine” experience of the tipped person.
Why don’t we accept additional tips?
We don’t accept tips at all, even when customers leave extra cash. This is to be fair to everyone, our customers and our team members. Just as any professional service person doing the best job that we can, a sincere word of appreciation is what we really care about the most. We know that going out is already expensive for most people, and we want the customer to enjoy the moment to the fullest, and use that extra money for a dessert, an after dinner drink, or to come in again sometime.
We also don’t want any of our customers to feel in any way under-appreciated by not leaving an extra tip. And we feel that by accepting anything extra, we would be sending the wrong message.
The correct message is.… “17.5% is enough, and that takes care of it.”
The message is not... “17.5% is supposed to be enough, but we really expect more”.
If we take additional tips, we would begin to favor those who gave a little extra, and then the rest of our customers would end up feeling bad, or obligated to do the same. Thinking it over, we decided it’s just not right. Dividing up the 17.5% is fair and enough for us. We will do our best 100% of the time and we don’t need to be bribed to do our jobs.
I want to to give more, I feel that the service was worth way more than 17.5%
If you feel that your experience was exceptional, and still want to leave more, then we feel it’s fair that we give it to our musicians, who work long and hard, and practice many hours for each hour they play.
All in all, musicians are the absolutely lowest paid people in our society, and they do so much to add to all of our experience. So, whatever you leave behind will be given to our musicians. who perform our live music nightly. You can just go ahead and drop it in their tip jar, (which is the only place tips are allowed in our establishment.) or we will, after you go.
When we don’t have live music, which is not very often, we take those extra dollars and give them to Father Joe’s Village, to help the unfortunate people on the streets.
Is there a service charge for to-go orders?
No, the charge is for table or bar service only. Our food does taste better right off the grill, so we encourage you to eat here when possible. Plus, it’s more fun.
Why do you charge tax on the service charge?
The State of California requires a tax on the service charge, as per Regulation 1603 (g)(2)(B). They require us to collect the tax and send it to them.
